Hi, I’m Ebony, just one woman behind the scenes, designing, dreaming, and creating at The Right Side of the bed. I’m not fashionable, I’m a little bit of a dork, but I love helping rooms feel happy.

Our Story:

I started my journey working in nursing, and I noticed something fascinating: a bright-coloured scrub could instantly lift someone’s mood. That tiny pop of colour had the power to comfort and delight and it sparked my love for surface pattern design.

Growing up, I dreamed of extending the joy of designing my room, choosing from endless themes like jungles, fairies, magic, or the beach (the chokehold the ocean theme had on us in the 90s, OMG!). I imagined bringing that whimsy to my whole apartment or house. But life didn’t quite work that way, much like the fashion magazines told me I’d always need to be ready to turn my 9–5 outfit into something for after-work cocktails—a waist belt, heels, and lipstick on standby. (Spoiler: that never happened.) Somewhere along the line, we collectively lost our whimsy and we settled for something less bold.

Our Designs:

That’s why I started The Right Side of the bed: to bring a little fun, joy, and colour back into everyday life, starting with bedsheets. Our sheets are inspired by the bright, cheerful linens your grandma’s cupboard might have been full of: forgiving with little messes, and full of personality. Each design is hand-drawn with an Apple Pencil and Procreate, built around a memory, a feeling, or a joyful moment.

Why We Started with Sheets:

I know that diving straight into full-blown colour and maximalism can feel scary. Trust me, as a recovering millennial grey addict, I get it. That’s why we started with bedsheets: a pop of bright colour that can be tucked up under a sensible doona cover if you’re just dipping your toes in. It’s a small way to bring whimsy, joy, and personality into your everyday life without overwhelming your space.
